thinkToronto: Urban Design Ideas Competition

From the urbanists at Spacing Magazine, blog, etc. comes an urban ideas competition for individuals and groups no older than 35:

thinkTORONTO invites people 35 years old or younger with creative ideas on how to improve Toronto’s public spaces. The competition will help celebrate the magazine’s 5th anniversary in December 2008. Architects, urban planners, landscape architects, designers, artists of all disciplines, students, and the urban curious are all encouraged to submit their plans to tweak, improve, or redesign streetscape elements and specific areas of Toronto.

thinkTORONTO seeks ideas from the next generation of city builders who want to challenge how we view Toronto’s public realm. The competition gives participants a platform to explore and experiment with Toronto’s urban landscape and generate a dialogue among Torontonians about creative and sustainable solutions in our shared common spaces.

having been to TORONTO couple of times i guess Toronto image needs to be enriched by the wide spectrum of cultures that are now living in CANADA
In my opinion glamorous / egocentric developments need to be mellowed down by more interactive vocabulary
ciyies like TORONTO are essentially ‘transcultural where futuristic lessons can be devised — for example, the new generations are loosing their age old tradition of ’sticking to their roots’ ——- the new slogan is ‘on the move’ , growing a rootless ( extremely short roots ) society for whom the world is his home - creating an unprecedented sense of universality — with much less addiction to specific religion or social grouping
the HOUSE is getting reduced to ever reducing flats/efficiency apartments , office spaces expanding (providing all kinds of amenities , food , recreation etc)- shopping malls gobbling the lively experience of the ‘bazaars ‘etc etc — the gity has to be INVENTED again in its ‘NEW AVTAAR.’

IT HAS already got too long
