Segways No Longer Dorkiest!
In a piece entitled “Powerbocks Steal Dork Prize From Segways” Wired columnist Lore Sjöberg directs our attention to the latest form of upward mobility: powerbocking. Patented by Mr. Bock in 2003 it seems that powerbocks — of which there are numerous brands — could become an indispensable tool for enhancing parkour escapades.

However, powerbocking could also — potentially — be a powerful prosthetic for avoiding technologically distracted meanderthals in urban settings. In a world where city sidewalks are becoming increasingly full along horizontal axes perhaps freedom of movment can be found by looking — or bouncing — upwards. Too often, it seems, mobility is thought of as something best achieved by navigating straight lines; but amidst a sea of obstacles it seems it might make sense to learn to navigate the ups and downs — the peaks and valleys — of the bouncing powerbocker.
