Ukranian Internment Camps in Canada

1916 Jasper Internment Camp Plaque

Missing from the tourist maps of Jasper National Park is the site of one of Canada’s first internment camps established during World War I. The plaque remembers “Enemy aliens”, but most of the internees were Canadian immigrants whose origins included places within the German and Austro-Hungarian empires - notably Ukranian immigrants who had been migrating to the prairies from the late 1800s. The plaque was placed by the Canadian Ukranian Civil Liberties Association - certainly with government consent, but it is neither an official apology nor has Canada recognized that this was a problem for groups other than Canadians of Japanese ancestry during the Second World War when similar camps operated. This ancient witch hunt is a good reminder at this time - its all too easy to repeat the mistakes of history.

I am shocked at the photos of the interment camps and at the fact that their has not been an apology for this dreadful act in Canada’s history

I have been visiting this site a lot lately, so i thought it is a good idea to show my appreciation with a comment.

    Thanks,

We hope these kinds of things are in the past but we can think again. The U.S. government under FEMA has prepared over 1,000 new camps over the past two or three years and they are capable of holding millions of people altogether.

When John Turner was the Liberal Prime Minister Parliament he passed a regulation allowing the Federal Government to build 3 very large holding camps or interment camps in Canada.
These were to be built in the West, Central Canada and the East. I had correspondence with Sven Robinson over these. He was the only MP who objected and questioned the need for such camps in Canada. Under the Brian Mulroney Government the legislation allowing the building of these camps was quietly dropped.

One would think it would safe to assume that the new Government no longer had any intention to build these places. Think again.

About four years ago, (2004) three older men from Nanaimo were moose hunting up North of Fort Nelson. They were walking along the railroad tracks. Inadvertently these men came across some kind of facility deep in the bush at the end of the line. There was no road into this place. Just the railroad.

This facility took up a few acres, was surrounded by barbed wire, with razor wire slanted inwards. Every so many feet there were guard towers. Inside the fence were several large barrack type buildings. Everything was in pristine condition and looked new. There was not a soul in sight….not even a security guard. The place was silent, empty and waiting. Waiting for who. (This was not a camp used for the Japanese or Ukrainians in the past)

Given the current political & economic situation in the U.S., considering their changes to their own laws regarding terrorism under their Patriot Act, now anyone who dissents, or speaks out can be considered a terrorist or enemy of the State. Over the past four or five years Canada has brought our own Regulations into line with the U.S. Patriot Act. You can now be arrested for speaking out against the system should they choose to do this. All dissenters can end up in one of these places. Your home can be searched without a search warrant if you are a suspect. All of this has been covered in our media but given far less prominence than it deserved. Our Deliberately. Our Government is getting ready. Ready for what? Guess? Go to Google and check out internment camps or FEMA both in the U.S. and in Canada.

If three Nanaimo men found one of these places I will lay you dollars to donuts there are several more in Canada in remote locations.

We are going to have a great deal of public unrest as this economic/financial crisis unfolds in the U.S. This coupled with the price of oil/gas, the incredible increase in price of food, the loss of purchasing power of our dollar. the loss of thousands of jobs and good jobs at that, …all of this is going to cause untold suffering for Canadians and the upper middle, middle, and lower incomed people are not going to escape. Not by any means. Did you know that the U.S. dollar has lost about 60% of its value in the last seven years. So has ours. No wonder so many Canadians are suffering hardship now. There will be many more. There will be many who are angry and will speak out. These people will end up in these camps no matter how important they might think they are. No matter how high their profile. In fact, these people, student and intellectuals will be the first to end up in these places.

Put your cash savings into gold coins or silver for that matter. Buy from a dealer not a bank. During the last depression peoples gold was confiscated. Hide it or bury it in you garden. Don’t let ANYONE know you have it including most of your family members. Only the very elite in Canada…..those who support the system and are extremely wealthy will escape the hardship coming down the pipe.

People who speak out such as students, the intellectuals and a few high profile people will be the first to go into one of these places.

Our Government has made plans along these lines for many years now. They are ready for whatever awaits Canadians. They will take steps against those who strongly object to what is happening. Go to Google and check out U.S. internment camps or FEMA. Check these for Canada as well.
