Canadian (new) media
Congratulations to spaceandculture favourites [murmur] for becoming a finalist in the Canadian New Media Awards‘ Excellence in Culture, Lifestyle, Arts category.
(From May 26 to June 25 look for an Airstream trailer on the streets of Toronto - from it “five urban activists tucked in amid a pile of audio equipment will be recording personal neighbourhood-related stories seven days a week from anyone who cares to wander up and tell them.” You can also learn more about them in Murmurings: An interview with members of the [murmur] collective by Caitlin O’Donovan)
The other awards finalists are the Textile Museum of Canada’s totally brilliant Canadian Tapestry site and UBC’s Museum of Anthropology’s VueGuide, a handheld device that “features audio, video, text, graphics and animation that complement the objects and exhibit on display”.
When you live beside the monster-media-machine that is the U.S., it’s great to be reminded how vibrant and culturally engaged our creative industries actually are.
