Logged on today to post this. I think this is a major event - Jacobs was among the best known Canadian thinkers about society and the condition of life as we make it in our time along with McLuhan and Innis.

Rob, thanks for that bit of explanation. I was wondering what prompted the extensive coverage in the Canadian press.
But I came here to add a comment about the contrasting lack of any mention in the UK press. Aside from the fact that it was front page news for the NY Times, I would have thought that the British press would note her significance in debates about urban planning. Yet I haven’t seen any mention of her passing, and none of the students I talked with had heard of it.
