Introducing Joost
Hi,
I’m Joost, one of the editors of Space and Culture and I just wanted to introduce myself. I’m Dutch but work and live in the UK at Nottingham Trent University, where I am a professor of media analysis. I’m 38 years old, married and have four children, aged between 18 months and 11 years. I’ve worked in universities since 1992 and have been with Space and Culture from the beginning in 1995.
My research interests are diverse and include fields such as risk, epidemiology, apocalypse, religion, airports, mobility, media, technology, sexuality, embodiment and networks. I’m currently writing a book on media technologies, to be published by Open University Press. It is an attempt to revisit some of the ideas offered by Marshall McLuhan, through the eyes of a poststructuralist-phenomenology, inspired by Heidegger, Benjamin, Haraway and Latour, and argue for a non-linear understanding of technological interfaciality.
At NTU, I teach a variety of subjects on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and am programme leader of the MA in Media and Globalization, which has just started in October 2005.
I hope to be posting more engaging stuff as from next week, including my reflections on the Canadian Association of Cultural Studies conference that is being held at the University of Alberta this week.

Hi Joost,
Indeed, a welcome from me! If you’re into mobility and networks you should check the CeMoRe blog I host at Lancaster’s ‘Centre for Mobilities Research’ - http://cemore.blogspot.com/
We should catch-up some time…
