Cradle to Cradle design is meant to foster eco-effectiveness “by extending design objectives to include the human and environmental safety and post-use value recovery of materials.”
Last summer the Cradle-to-Cradle (C2C) Home Competition called for affordable, sustainable urban housing designs – and the winning entries will be constructed in the summer of 2005.

“The first prize student winner, Sean Wheeler transformed recycled billboards and train cars into the comfortable, flexible ‘pMod’: a portable, modular dwelling that combines the upgradeable adaptability of the PC with pleasingly domestic elements like roof gardens, courtyards, and porches.
Damien Urain Linnen anchored his work in an element of the American house that has largely become a decorative flourish: the porch. His design–which was awarded second prize in the student category–creates a flexible variety of public and private, indoor and outdoor, living spaces.”
